What is a keto diet?

The ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high fat diet. The science behind it is simple. It forces your body to burn fat, rather than carbs, because there simply aren’t enough to burn! Making it highly effective as a cure for a number of illnesses, particularly diabetes and epilepsy.

What makes a good keto diet?

Many foods constitute to a healthy and sustainable keto diet. But here are just the pick of the bunch.

– Seafood. Fish are very keto-friendly foods. They are near enough carb free, but packed with vitamins.

– Cheese. High in fat, low in carbs. This was simply made for the keto diet.

– Meat and poultry. Probably the staple of a keto diet. They contain zero carbs, and are a prime source of high quality protein, which has been shown to help sustain muscle mass during a low-carb diet such as keto.


How long should I stay on keto diet?
The first 2-6 weeks are the “teething phase”. Your body is just getting adjusted to focusing primarily on fats as opposed to carbohydrates. To see any credible results, a keto diet should be maintained for a minimum of three months.
What happens after keto?

After a keto diet the most important thing to remember is not to go back to the eating ways that led you to keto (if that was in fact the reason). It seems silly to say, but they are the cold hard facts. There is a natural shift when you leave “the keto zone” and return to a carb enriched diet. Starting off with a moderated medium-intake carb diet is an effective way of keeping control of your diet.
